Anti-fence activists go on trial

17/12/2004

The trial of two far-left activists who scuffled with border policemen during a violent protest against the construction of the security fence opened Thursday, December 9 in the Jerusalem Magistrates Court.

Yonatan Pollack and Kobi Snitch from the Anarchists Against the Fence group were arrested in September for participating in the violent anti-fence demonstration near the West Bank village of Budrus, and were released on bail.

The two men are charged with creating a disturbance and scuffling with security officials. An additional charge of entering a closed military zone was dropped because the trial is being held in a civilian court.

"We are not terrorists, but moral people who want a solution to the situation in the Middle East," Pollack said before the trial began. "The fence will not be built and if it is built, it will fall," he added. The trial resumes February 27
