With the increase of legal persecution against Palestinian demonstrators, AATW are now fundraising to expand its existing legal fund so that it also covers defense costs for Palestinians. This is in addition to covering a standing 15,000 USD debt, resulting from the legal persecution of Israeli anti-wall demonstrators.
We urge you to read our call for support and to please make a donation that will enable us to continue the struggle.
While the first village to resist the wall was Jayous, as early as September 2002, it was the struggle of the village of Budrus that was the spark that set the fire. Late in November 2003, the people of Budrus rose up and stood together to block the bulldozers, soon after Israeli and international activists joined them. Through its persistence in community mobilization, struggle and popular resistance, the village of Budrus was able to achieve significant victories. Without appealing to the Israeli courts, utilizing only popular resistance, the village succeeded to push the path of wall almost completely off its land. Budrus' success inspired many other villages to build a popular resistance, which is perhaps an even greater success. For a good part of the year, almost every village to which the construction of the wall reached rose up against it.
