For the past 6 days, activists have been taking part in small, quiet protest vigils on the side of the main road leading to Sde Dov airport in Tel Aviv, which serves as a hub for Israeli Air Force operations, and from which the pilots who are currently bombing Gaza fly to their military bases.
Firefighters attack protesters with a water cannon outside Sde Dov Air Force base
Coming together in the early hours of the morning - so as to catch the eyes of military pilots arriving at the base - activists have been facing the heavy morning traffic with signs reminding Israeli Air Force soldiers of the bloodshed their bombs and planes are causing in Gaza. During the course of the week, these peaceful protests have been repeatedly attacked by members of the public, as well as by municipal workers and even firefighters stationed nearby, who went so far as to turn their water cannon on protesters. Nevertheless, the protest vigils are scheduled to continue.
