For the second time in a month activists from Anarchists Against the Wall blocked one of Tel Aviv's busiest streets using razor wire taken from the segregation wall in the West Bank village of Bil'in. In a replica of an action on December 28th, the activists brought Rothschild Street in downtown Tel Aviv to a standstill this afternoon at around 3 pm.

Demonstrators dismantling razor wire fortifications of the wall

Heading this week’s demonstration was a big sign reading "the internal killings" with mock nooses tied to it, and around the necks of a few Palestinian demonstrators, who were calling for an end to Palestinian infighting harming the struggle against the occupation. About a hundred villagers were joined by thirty international activists and Israelis from the Anarchists Against the Wall initiative.

A Palestinian demonstrator attacked by soldiers

This week’s larger than usual demonstration in Bil’in was characterized by a strategy of escalation on the army’s side. Demonstrators were attacked by border police with a concussion grenade inside the village, even before reaching the gate, and marksmen with live ammunition were spotted.

Over a thousand posters were posted all around Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, bringing up the little published story of the murder of 11 year old Abir Aramin from the Palestinian village Anata, near Jerusalem.

This week’s demonstration in Bil’in protested military violence against children, and was dedicated to Abir Aramin, a ten year old from the village of Anata near Jerusalem. Abir was hit in the back of her head with either a rubber coated steel bullet, or with a concussion grenade, as border policemen invaded Anata Tuesday. She died of her wounds last night at the Hadasa Ein Karem hospital in Jerusalem.

Villagers demonstrating against the wall in Um Salamuna

Hundreds of Palestinians gathered in Um Salamuna today, to conduct the Friday prayer on lands recently bulldozed for the wall. They were joined by Israeli activists from the Anarchists against the wall initiative and by international activists who came to express their solidarity. Fortunately, there were no bulldozers working on the village’s lands today, and even the military stayed afar, on an overlooking hill.
